NEW DELHI, INDIA - MAY 23, 2019. After a month-long election, the counting of votes in India's 2019 general elections was completed early on May 24th, 2019. Initial returns indicate a clear victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is expected to win a majority of the 542 seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of parliament. The Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) is expected to win around 102 seats, followed by other parties with 83 seats.
